Jennifer - Congrats! It is so exciting that the first of the babies in our little group is home! I can't wait to see pics and hear your birth story.

I hope everyone else is having a great Thanksgiving! We went to a friend's house (my family - parents, aunt, uncle, cousins, sisters, etc. went there too) and had an amazing meal. I am feeling a little crampy today though. I am hoping to stay pregnant until Dec. 6th when DH starts his vacation time. But I don't know if I'll make it that far!

Hi all! Samuel Christopher was born at 11:19 am on Wed 11/19. I didn't post until now because we just got home from the hospital today. Long story short he was HUGE (9lbs 3 ozs, I am a very small person and would have had a c-section had they known) and his head got stuck on the way out. So they had to kind of force him out and broke his arm in the process. Then he was having trouble maintaining his oxygen levels and ten million tests later they sent us home today with caffeine for him and a monitor that he has to wear all the time because he skips breaths while he's sleeping. So every time he goes twenty seconds without breathing the monitor goes off. The good news is that it is temporary, could be six weeks or so, and he always recovers on his own so far. It's just scary. And I was living at the hospital, luckily they have rooms that special care unit people could stay in. I am nursing so I had to be there to feed him, nor would I have left him anyway, both DH and I were there the whole time. But we're home now and he is absolutely amazing, I could stare at him all day. He is wearing a little sling for his arm that will come off in two weeks or so. Babies heal very quickly apparently. So, congrats too to Jennifer!!! I didn't have time to read all the boards, but hello to everyone else, I'm off to "sleep", no matter what it'll be much better than sleeping in the hospital! Have a great day all, and happy thanksgiving!!

JENNIFER - Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear that Easton is home. I hope you were able to indulge in a plate full of carbs & sweets yesterday!

KELLY K - Congratulations! It sounds like you had a rather traumatic birth experience, but I'm so glad that everything is ok.

TIFFANY - I hope your bean can hold out until 12/6 for you!

It's so exciting that the babies are starting to arrive!!! I wanted to say that even though I didn't post yesterday, I said a special "thank you" for all of you ladies. You have all made my journey through this pregnancy so much easier.

AFM - I had my last appointment Wednesday. They did another growth u/s, even though it was technically 2 days too early to do one. The baby is measuring very small in the abdomen, like before. The head & femur are in the 50%, but the abdomen is in the 2%, which drags the baby's overall rate to the 18%. They said they know it's b/c of my bp, but the blood flow through the cord actually looks better than it has been. I'll feel so much better once this baby is out of the "host body" as dh calls it, and in my arms. They estimate that the baby is only 5lb 1oz, so we're prepared for a tiny one. Even though they're not worried, I am. I'm really hoping it's just a little baby and that there's nothing wrong. I'm trying to just have faith and trust my doctors. Only a few days until the amnio (Monday) & I'm praying that my body & the baby can hold out.

Allison-I will be praying for you and your little one. Please know that. Praying the amnio goes well.

Easton is doing great. He nurses very well. He woke every 2 1/2 hours to eas and went right back to sleep. I have only heard him cry once! He is so perfect. He came out so fast that he bruised pretty bad. The brusing caused him to have jaunace so he was on bili lights for a while but his levels are much better now. I will let you all know the whole story when I have a chance to stop and type it all out. My oldest DD has soccer tournaments today so we are really rushed.

Kelly-Congratulations!!!!!!
To everyone else, I am praying for all of you and your babies! It feels so good to see and hold them! I can't wait for all of us to have our rainbow babies. This feeling is wonderful. Easton will never take Sorens place but the love I feel for him helps me feel like I have hope again. He is wonderful.

JENNIFER - It's great to hear you sounding so upbeat & hopeful. I'm so happy that Easton is doing well. I can't wait to read the full story.

JESS - The amnio on Monday is to test the lung function. I think the results come back right away (or within an hour or two), so we'll know in 2 days when this one will arrive - or at least when labor will be induced! I've been wondering about AMY, too. I'm hoping that she has just been busy with the holidays & MIL.

Kelly - Congrats! How scary that he got stuck and that his arm broke in the process. I'm glad he is home now and I hope his arm heals very quickly.

Allison - Good luck with your amnio on Monday. I know it is easier said than done but try not to stress out too much if your docs aren't worried. That isn't good for your BP either! Smile

Jennifer - I'm glad that Easton is such a good baby for you. The lack of sleep is so much less stressful when you know your little one is eating well and is in a good mood!

Hi to Jess, Amy and everyone else!

Oh, update on Beth for those of you who remember her: Her son Race was born on 11/28 by scheduled c/s. He weighs 6lbs, 11oz and is 20" long. He had a very short stay in the NICU but is home now. Beth said that he has tons of beautiful dark hair.

AFM: No real contractions yet, but I am spotting from my exam the other day. I have been feeling a little crampy though. And my "lady parts" are sore! I feel like I have something between my legs making it impossible to walk normally so I waddle. Very cute LOL! Oh, the joys of late pregnancy.

AMY - Sounds like you're getting close! Hang in there.

TIFFANY - I've been trying to relax, but I'm actually having a lot of first time mom to a living baby anxiety, too! I feel relatively calm & try to stay that way. (it was tough last night, since I finally watched the new 24!) It sounds like you're really close, too. I can't wait to see your LO & especially a pic of your dd with the new lo. Thanks for the update on Beth, too!

Hi. How is everyone doing this week? Do we have any more babies on our board yet? I had my appt today and unfortunately nothing has changed since last week. I am still 70% effaced and dilated to 2cm. The doc seemed to think it would be any day at my appt last week. But since I've made no change and haven't been having contractions, he now thinks I'll hang in there for a while. They scheduled me to be induced next Wed. (Dec. 10th) at 6am. I am excited to have a date, but I was really hoping to go into labor on my own before that. I've always heard it takes longer when you are induced. I will be trying every trick in the book this weekend though. Lots of walking and preggo sex! lol I am not sold on the castor oil idea yet though. That really doesn't sound fun!

Hi Ladies!

Camden James was born 11/30 by emergency c-section at 3:43am. He weighed 7lbs 2oz at 36w 5d. We just got home last night from the hospital. He was jaundiced so he had to stay under the lights for 2 days. He is doing great and is beautiful. As soon as I get a chance I will post pics.

Congrats Jennifer and Kelly!

Congrats Quincy! Hope you are recovering well. Praying that you are not in too much pain from the c-section. I am so glad that baby is doing well! Sending love and hugs!!!!

Tiff- I tried castor oil with my first child and I went in to labor dialated to 4 and then labor stoped! I went through all that and it did not even work! I would say to you DO NOT TRY THE CASTOR OIL! It was awful! We tried the breast stimulation with baby #2 and it worked!!!!!

Re: November/December

Post  Dashiell'sMom on Sun Dec 07, 2008 1:33 pm

Hi Gals!

Our rainbow baby boy, Kannon Dashiell arrived on Tuesday, 12/2 AT 4:24PM, weighing a tiny 4lb, 9.7oz & 18" long. We were shocked, but thrilled. We chose the name Kannon for it's meaning (it'e the buddhist deity of childbirth, children & dead souls). Had it been a girl, the name would have been Kinsey (meaning King's Victory)

From my 12/1 post that somehow didn't post here:
I had the amnio this morning. A fellow performed it & poked around a lot - NOT fun, but also nowhere near as painful as the amnio I had with Dashiell. The results won't be back until 5pm at the earliest. I have to go back to the hospital either way tonight at 7. If the lungs are mature, we'll begin the induction process. If they're not, I'll get round 1 of the betamethasone tonight, return tomorrow night at 7 for round 2, and start induction on Wed. at 7pm. I have a really strong feeling that the lungs are going to be fine and that I'll be on for tonight. I'll try to have dh post if he can. Thanks again for all of the good thoughts! Hopefully, the next time I post, I'll be juggling my rainbow baby in one arm while trying to type!

The birth story:
MONDAY - I went in at 7pm to see if I needed the shot or to start the cervix ripening. The receptionist made a call and said, "nope, you're here for induction!" Dh had a show, so he kissed me goodbye & I was escorted into my labor room. They were really slow, so they gave me the nicest & largest room! (Leana - it was room Cool. It had the most beautiful view of the Hudson river & looked downtown toward the Manhattan skyline. The doc came in to check my cervix around 9pm & come to find out, I was 3cm, 70% effaced & head was at -1! I met with the anestesiologist to discuss my back issues (2 herniated discs), which reassured me. I waited on the actual epi, though. They didn't use the cervadil, but rather went ahead & started the pitocin. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. DH arrived around 11:30pm & we slept for a bit.

TUESDAY - around 4pm, the doc came back to check me again. I was 5cm & 80%, head at -1. I finally asked for the epi around 4:30. The resident performed it. which was not the greatest, but once it was in, it was fine - until my bp crashed. It dropped to 73/38! I couldn't keep my eyes open & all I could hear was the nurse telling me to keep my eyes open. They finally stablized me and I had instant relief. I went back to sleep for a bit. Around 5am, the pitocin was up to 15, but the baby's heart rate decelled with each contraction. At that point, they turned the pitocin off. They started it again around 9am at 1. By 12pm, I was still only 5=6cm dilated & 90% effaced. The baby's heart rate kept decelling, so they turned the pitocin off again. They wanted to let me go on my own for couple of hours & reasses then. The doc came back to check me at 2pm & said, "I'm going to check you and once I see where you are, we'll discuss the options." Well, I was 10cm, fuly effaced & head was at +2! I went from 5-6cm to 10 on my own without pitocin! She decided to try & let me push at 3pm & see how it went. If it didn't go well, it was going to be a c section.

I started pushing at 3pm and as soon as I did, the contractions (which had been on top of each other) slowed considerably. I would push & then sleep for 5-10 minutes until the next contraction. I only had to do 8 sets of pushing, but it took 1 hour, 24 minutes. The sun had begun to set and it was casting a beautiful light in the room. My nickname for Dash was "my light" and I could feel him with me. The doc said, "OK, you're going to have this baby before sunset, so push."

His head came out & the cord was tightly wrapped around his neck 3 times. It was so tight that the doc had trouble getting it off of him. She finally did and after a few minutes (which seemed like hours) I heard his beautiful cry. DH went over to the table & held his hand & took pics while I was being stitched. (2nd degree tear)

I finally got to hold him after about 1/2 hour & put him on the breast. They then took him to th nursery. Thankfully, I got a private room. After the epi wore off, I realized that I had excruciating pain in my left leg. It was the horrible sciatica that I had with Dash, which had returned with a vengance. I could barely walk. I was so happy that I didn't care.

Kannon had to stay in the nursery to get his blood sugar up & temp reglated. They finally brought him to me around 10pm. I just stared at his beautiful eyes. Finally, at 11pm, I started falling asleep, so I sent him back to the nursery. At 2am, the neonatologist came in to let me know that he had been taken to the NICU. He wasn't feeding well and his blood sugar levels were low. Long story short, he was having trouble gagging while he was feeding & they ended up having to put a feeding tube & IV in. He remained in the NICU until yesterday. He worked with a feeding specialist & is now doing really well. Menwhile, I was not doing well at all. I had to be wheeled everywhere, couldn't sit up b/c of the pain etc. They had me see a physical therapist & a neurologist. I had another MRI which showed that my discs have further herniated & they've referred me to a surgeon. I can finally walk with the help of a walker, but I'm still in a lot of pain & on a lot of drugs (all of which I've been assured are safe for Kannon while I'm bfing). I can't really breast feed, b/c I can't sit to hold him, but I am pumping, so at least he's getting breast milk.

The hospital set us up with a visiting nurse to check in on both me & Kannon, as well as in home physical therapy for me. Thank God for good health insurance.

Our first night at home, although a tad sleepless, was wonderful. Dh has been doing everything. I can't stand to change him or dress him, so it has all been on dh. He has been a rock star.

OK, I have to go attend to my little guy. I leave you all with the pics of Kannon. He looks exactly like Dash, who looked exactly like dh!

Allison - Congrats! I am so excited for you. I am sorry you had a rough time in the hospital though. I hope the physicaly therapy is working and you feel better soon. That would be hard to not be able to take care of your new baby as you would like to. Kannon is so beautiful! I laughed when I saw the pic of his tongue sticking out! Get some rest and keep us updated on how you and Kannon are doing.

AFM: Still preggo. I've been at 2cm for about 2 weeks now. I am done! I've tried everything I can think of this weekend to put myself into labor and none of it is working! I'll get one or two contractions as a tease, and then nothing! I am supposed to be induced Wednesday morning and I am afraid! I would much rather go into labor on my own. Keep your fingers crossed I go into labor tomorrow or Tuesday.

Quincy- Congrats to you too!
Hi to everyone else! Very Happy
AFM: I had my boys as well. I was supposed to call between 6 and 7am on the 5th to be induced, but went into labor at just before midnight! Nicholas Oliver and Zachary Elliot were born on Dec 5th at 5:05 and 5:10. Nicholas weighed 6 lbs, 14 oz and was 20 inches. Zachary weighed 6 lbs, 2 oz and was 19 inches. I has planned to get the epi but I didn't make it in time. We were sent home on the 6th bc everything went so well. I didn't even get stitches this time. ( I had 4 w/Matthew.) The boys are nursing pretty well but Nicholas has a problem mantaining his body temp. I'm really tired, of course, but just thankful that they're healthy.
Oh, Matthew is doing great with his new brothers. He's even been calm enough to hold them for about a minute each. I'll post pics asap!

Congrats Allison and Amy! This is just so wonderful to hear that all our babies are arriving safe and healthy!

Easton is doing well. Today is his check up and he is being circumcised. I am so nervous. I hate the idea of his little thing being cut, but DH and DS are both done so Easton will be also. Crying or Very sad Say a prayer that it will go smoothly.

Amy - congrats! I can't wait to see pics. I forgot to ask, are they identical or fraternal? Do they look a lot alike?

Jennifer - I am nervous to have my baby boy circumsized also! I think it needs to be done, but it is so sad! Most doctor's offices around here won't use any kind of pain meds either. I am going to have it done at the hospital though.

AFM: I am scheduled to be induced tomorrow morning (Wednesday, Dec. 10th). I was really hoping to go into labor on my own before that, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I am nervous about being induced and not looking forward to being strapped down to the bed by so many monitors, IV's, etc. Wish me luck and a speedy delivery! I am worried it will take forever since I am being induced!

Easton did well today with the circumcision. He is a bit fussy, but if I had a penis and someone cut the skin off I would be more than a bit fussy! He has lost more weight since he left the hospital and now weighs 7 lbs. They are going to start monitoring his weight once a week to make sure that he is going to start gaining soon.

Tiff- Good luck tomorrow! I will be praying for a fast, smooth, delivery and a happy healthy baby in your arms tomorrow!

Sorry for the delay - I will read later. I hope everyone is doing well.
Kate was born Dec 5 at 7:38am and weighed 7lb 9 oz and was 19 inches.
Here are some pictures http://liddles.smugmug.com/Family.

We went in last Friday for our scheduled c-section. Everything went great she came out screaming. We went home Monday and were getting around the house good. She had a little jaundice and had lost 10% of her body weight which worried me a bit. We went to the dr both Wed and Thurs. and her bellirubin went down. So she goes back next Friday now for 2 week. I went to my ob on Thurs because I had had a headache since monday. My ob admitted me to the hospital - I had pre-eclampsia(i thought you could only get it when you were pregnant). I should go home today if my bp stays down. Kate stayed with me the first night and then yesterday we found out she couldn't spend the night so she and DH went home at 9:30pm and just got back up here this morning. They did such a good job but DH didn't get any sleep,

Kathy_ I thought you could only get Pre-E while pregnant till I had Soren and I got it after delivery also! You can get for up to 6 weeks after delivery. Weird huh! I know when I had it I had such a bad headache and my body swelled up so much that the skin between my toes and fingers spilt open. It was awful.I am so glad that Kate is doing well. Hope you are feelig better. Well congratulations!!!!!!
